What is a Maturity Area?

Maturity Areas refer to parts of the Orchard that are grouped to be harvested at once. These areas are registered with Zespri and are a critical component of harvest. They can be made up of part of a block, parts of multiple blocks, an individual block, multiple blocks or an entire orchard provided they adhere to Zespri’s maturity area rules. Maturity Areas can be created in Landkind and then exported for registration in Zespri’s Maturity Clearance System (MCS).

Maturity Areas can only be managed from within an individual property, learn how to navigate to a property here.

Navigation

When you first navigate to a property you can see the boundary of the orchard visible in its spatial location.

When you navigate to the Maturity Areas workflow, a detailed spatial view of the blocks on the orchard will display including a list of the blocks in the sidebar.

From here you can click in to view individual maturity area details.

Use the Next Feature button to effortlessly move between maturity areas.

Maturity Area Attributes

These are the fields on a maturity area that contain important information about the maturity area and the associated blocks. This information is registered with Zespri prior to harvest.

Examples of attributes include:

  • Maturity Area Name

  • Block Names

  • Blocks which are 1st Year Producing

  • Total Area

  • Variety

  • Tray Estimate per Ha

  • Total Trays Estimate

  • Full Bloom Date

  • Grow Method

  • Covered Status

Attributes can be shown/hidden and set to ‘mandatory/optional’ depending on your specific organisation’s requirements. Contact us if you would like to request changes to your setup.

Season Rollover

Maturity Areas are submitted to the MCS as new each season. The team at Landkind will support the roll over Maturity Areas to save time having to re-create Maturity Areas from scratch when an Orchard consistently has the same Maturity Areas each season.

The previous season’s Maturity Areas are re-created in a draft state with some attribute information retained and others cleared for re-entry. Maturity Areas can then be edited to provide the relevant season information and Submitted/Saved ready for export.

As an example, Maturity Areas would retain the same information for the following attributes:

  • Maturity Area Name

  • Block Names

  • Blocks which are 1st Year Producing

  • Total Area

  • Variety

  • Grow Method

  • Covered Status

The following attributes would be cleared so that the relevant season information can be updated:

  • Tray Estimate per Ha

  • Total Trays Estimate

  • Full Bloom Date

If the underlying crop data for the Maturity Area changes e.g. a block has changed its area after re-survey or one of the blocks in the Maturity Area has been cutover to a new variety, then the rolled over Maturity Area will need to be archived and new Maturity Areas created based on the updated crop data.
